Second Day: Making the Tsunami, Feeling the quake
by: Jay Arellano
7 July 2008
Pampanga, Philippines - Members Church of God International (MCGI)
at the Ang Dating Daan (The Old Path) Convention Center in Apalit,
Pampanga remained unshaken in their offering of thanksgiving to
God amidst feeling the tremors of the 5.4 earthquake that hit the
province of Angeles at around eight in the evening last night, July 6.
It was the second day of MCGI’s Thanksgiving of the Whole
Congregation, and as they did in the first, offered songs of
praises to God Almighty; this time, however, congregants the world
over did so all together via live streaming on the internet. The
joyous moment was topped with a “human wave” that was more of a
tsunami as it started from one end of the convention center to the
other and back again. Some visitors remarked it was a wonderful
sight as everyone even crouched to add a more dynamic feel to the
monumental visual.
During the church Vice-Presiding Minister Bro Daniel Razon’s
sermon, the congregation’s silence was momentarily disturbed upon
realizing that an earthquake occurred, which was felt even more
following a brief aftershock. “Don’t worry, that is sturdy … There
is an angel holding that,” remarked Bro. Razon that sent the crowd
cheering and back once more to their listening composure.
As was earlier mentioned, Bro. Eli Soriano explained to the
congregation why the first people of God did not understand the
resurrection of the dead, the work after death, and the end of the
times according to the Bible. Expectedly, the brethren were all
thumbs up and more with the explanation they have heard from the
phenomenal preacher and MCGI presiding minister.
Bro. Eli was unable to end his discussion of the topic at around
past 1 am of the following day (July 7) due to time constraints
and because of a scheduled indoctrination in a South American country.
