Title: Typie and Me
contributed by: ryan, January 27, 2007
Even before sleeping to bed at one in the morning, Peter still exudes with jubilation and excitement. Why not? He received letters from the Golden Globe that his screenplay for the movie, “The Man Who Eat Rats,” was picked among five official nominations for the best screenplay honors for this year’s ceremony.
Peter, while only in his late 30s, is considered in Hollywood as one of the most promising new screenplaywriters around. He has worked with some of the better-known directors from both independent and commercial studios since his early 20s.
He goes to his room with the invitation in hand. As he opened the door, he advances to his Remington Noiseless Model Seven typewriter and kissed it.
“Without you, I won’t be able to make it. It’s been too long since I first used you little typie, I know you know it. 14, 15, oh yeah, we are together now for 16 years,” he quips. “You are more than a buddy, a friend, a companion. I guess you need to rest now.”
As if unexpectedly, the typewriter moved slightly but enough to rattle the little table where it was placed. But if one motions closer to the typewriter, groans will be heard.
Peter moved back and was surprised. But a little while, he walked to his bed to sleep.
Then, came the Golden Globe Awards night and as expected Peter was in the hall. Fingers crossed as he listens when names for the best screenplay category are called.
“And the Golden Globe is awarded to … “The Man who Eat Rats … screenplay by Peter Parker!!!”
Loud cheers and clapping of hands erupted and filled the hall. And Peter, who appeared floating in bliss, walked up to the stage to accept his award. Clapping of hands still ensues for over a minute or so. Peter proceeds to the microphone and gave his acceptance speech.
“I have listed 250 names to thank for this award, are you ready?”
Laughter roared in the hall.
“…well, let me begin with my old typewriter, who even without a build-in spelling checker was really good to me and also I am thanking my agent, my producer who trusted that this film be made. How gory!!” Then he smiled and said jokingly, next year you’ll see on the screen, “The typewriter who ate Me!”
Aside from cheers and laughter, Peter swept the audience with his good-natured humor and even received an ovation from the crowd. Then shortly he left the stage.
He partied the whole night with celebrities in the entertainment industry. After the award’s cocktail, Peter rode to his semi-vintage car and sleep in a nearby hotel to spend the whole night. He lived in the sleepy town of Texas.
He arrived past 10 pm at his home the other day and a big box was at the front door. It was a newly-delivered desktop PC box set from eBay. He keyed his door and pushed the door with his feet as he carried the box of his electronic PC.
Peter immediately brings the PC box to his room. He gets a cutter to slit the tape closing the box and when the box opened, he brought out the PC’s flat screen monitor and the CPU. He pulled out from the box the cords, and other paraphernalia.
Unknowingly to Peter, small groans are being exhumed through the little table where his typewriter lies.
As Peter gets busy removing from the box the other attachments of his brand new tool, he was caught unawares of small blood slowly dripping out of his typewriter, as if this was a show of anger and madness.
A ring from Peter’s mobile phone was heard. He picked up the phone but the screen flashed: “one missed call.” Another ring and then another call dropped, reflecting again “one missed call.”
Then a few moments later, he advances to his little table and as he was about to remove his typewriter, his hands were cut from handling the left-side of the machine. He shouted, “Ouch,” as blood dripped in his hands.
He again tried to bring the typewriter down now. Then successfully he was able to place the typewriter just below his little table.
Still, little but growing groans are being heard. This is slowly alarming Peter as he wander around the room to find out where the groaning noise come from. But he never minded what he is hearing so he continues with his stuff.
He bring the desktop PC monitor to the little table but as he places the monitor, the typewriter suddenly moved and the type bars quickly typed and typed, then suddenly grabbed his foot as the type bars pounded his left foot.
“Hey, what are you doing?” Peter shouted but to no avail because the typewriter has gone wild eating up his foot.
Peter brought down the desktop monitor to the little table and tried to remove the typewriter out of his feet which is now oozing with blood.
“STOOOOOOOOOOP IT! STOOOOOOP IT!”
Outside the window from Peter’s house, we see his shadow trying to remove the typewriter but a little while the only light from his room was shut off and we are left with the disturbing shout of Peter.
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
The next day, the dailies’ headlines:
“TYPEWRITER ATE HIS TYPIST!”
“GLOBE SCREENPLAY WINNER KILLED BY TYPING TOOL”
“TYPEWRITER PAPER BECOMES PETER!”

kalel0215 @ August 11, 2008 I can sense the writer was very much influenced with pop-thematic horror genre. Very much hollywood-ish, certainly not a Cinemalaya piece. - - - - - - - |
