Title: Lala's 3-Hour Trip
contributed by: hazeey,  December 18, 2006

“Hey! Lala, hurry! We need to be at the beach before nine,” Kent shouted as he hops in the car.

“I’m coming,” Lala answered.

Bestfriends Day! The two are on a 3-hour trip to White Sand Beach in Boracay to celebrate their fifteenth anniversary of being buddies. It’s almost 6 a.m. and Kent is getting fed up with Lala’s turtle motion. Then he saw Lala running down the stairs.

“Do you plan to stay at the beach for good?” Kent asked in exasperation.

“Nope. Just a day,” Lala said, unmindful of Kent’s sarcasm.

“Lot of stuffs, huh?” he murmured while turning the car out of their subdivision.

Lala turned the stereo on and readied her tweety bird-shape pillow for sleep.

“You can’t leave me awake alone for three hours,” Kent scolded her.

“You’re such a very, very gentle man,” she exclaimed, making a sigh of irritation.

They’ve been friends since five years old. Lala’s parents died in a car accident when she was 10; so Kent’s family took the responsibility of being her guardian. Their families are closest of friends and treat each other like kins.

“Here we go. Hooooo…” she shouted excitedly as they parked the car inside the resort. She gets out of the car as fast as she could and run to the beachfront.

“Hey! Wait,” Kent tried to stop her but Lala continue running.

“Silly girl,” he uttered in dismay.

Kent finished unpacking their food and belongings after thirty minutes. He saw Lala picking pebbles and playing with the water. He smiled as he remembered Lala as a child; and now that she’s a grown-up, she still has those childish attitudes. He came after her and helped her picked some pebbles.

“Kent, look! That little creature seems to be very creative,” she said pointing to the little crab entering a little hole and digging its own exit hole.

“Animal instinct,” he remembered one of their discussions in Biology.

Lala turned his head up and stared deeply at the sky. Her face becomes a picture of a person with an unanswerable question.

Then she said, “You know what, it’s been a puzzle to me how great God is. I’ve asked a lot of people where God came from but no one gave me an answer. He’s really full of mystery.”

Kent tapped her on the shoulder and motioned her to walk closer to the area where the water meets the sand. Then he dig a small hole and asked Lala to get some water and store it inside the hole until it becomes full. Lala did as what she was told to do so. After several times of putting water into the hole, she noticed that no water was stored.

“The sand absorbs the water,” she said.

Kent smiled and said, “It’s the answer to your question. Much as we want to understand all the things about God, we’ll never will. It’s a mystery to be revealed in His time. Just like the mystery of how the sand is able to absorb the water, the mystery about God’s being remains a mystery until the right time comes.”

“That’s awesome. You’re a genius boy,” she exclaimed with satisfaction. “I hope to see that time,” she added.

“Sure, you will,” Kent answered as he holds Lala’s arms and guided her to their cottage.

As they walk, Lala speaks to her mind, “My question wasn’t answered yet. It’s still waiting to be solved.”
